Bauhaus Chessmen are a faithful reproduction of the original design by Bauhaus sculptor Josef Hartwig. The design transforms pieces into geometric symbols based on their functions.
The thought behind this design was that the shapes and symbols of cubes, cylinders, and balls should lead you to move by move to checkmate.
The original Bauhaus design was sold in two versions, a "daily use" version and a hand-made "luxury" version.
Our design is a reproduction of the Handmade Luxury Version.
Also included is Roll Up Chessboard made up of solid blocks of Ebony & Maple Wood.
This chess board has been finely polished in Matt finish.
