These chess pieces are modeled after several of the pre-staunton designs that were prevalent before the advent of the standard Staunton pattern.
These designs were fancied by the nobility due to their intricate carvings and uniqueness. Each piece has meticulous carving work which requires expertise that only a master carver can achieve.
One set can take a carver more than a week to complete.
