Before the staunton design became popular and an international standard in chess tournaments, a lot of English pre-staunton designs were very popular. The design of this set is a reproduction of English Chess sets popular in circa 1800.
The quality of craftsmanship on these chessmen is quite extraordinary. Each piece is lovingly handcarved and turned by our master artisans with decades of experience carving these luxury heirloom pieces.
They have been artificially aged to give effect of vintage patina on the chessmen. Double weighted with lead studs, these chessmen have a substantial ballast to them to ensure great stability on the chessboard.
