The Agassizi cichlid is one of those fish that, if kept well, will catch the eye of everybody who walks past its aquarium. A colourful and active species found in slower moving areas with lots of leaf litter covering the substrate. This is easy to replicate at home and will offer a natural environment for the fish.
Feeding is not difficult. In the wild, they will eat inverts and insects while searching through the leaf litter. Feeding live foods such as Daphnia and brine shrimp while balancing their diet with a quality dry pellet or granule consisting of an insect meal base will provide your fish with everything they need to thrive.
The Agassizi is not an aggressive fish and can be kept with most peaceful fish. However, if kept with another Apistogramma, it will become territorial and display aggressive behaviours. Avoid this by avoiding similar species. Breeding can be done using a dedicated breeding tank. Add the pair and feed live foods to condition. Once the female has spawned, it may be a good idea to remove the male to avoid conflict.
All our fish are quarantined on arrival for two weeks. During this time, they are treated for any possible diseases and given a complete health check to make sure they are healthy, happy, and eating well before being placed in our display aquariums, ready for sale.
