Basic Fiddlers Philharmonic is a pedagogically sequenced collection of well known folk, Celtic, and fiddle melodies, tuned for absolute beginners. Each song includes a melody line, an accompaniment line, and a more advanced solo line. Both the melody and solo lines are easier than their counterparts in the regular Fiddlers Philharmonic. Also, notes are larger, and include note names. Not only do these different parts give developing students a good way to slowly learn a piece, they make this collection easy to use with small ensembles. Players can take turns with the solo part and playing backup on the melody or accompaniment. Ample opportunity to improvise is also provided, with some instruction given for this. An Accompaniment CD is included, which can be especially valuable for practicing improvisation.
