Why Bio Leaf?
Meet my new obsession. This mix is a joy to work with. Nice and chunky. Much less mess. Easier clean-up. Also seriously good for my plants. Lucky things. Talk about spoiled. I love it. My plants love it. Win win.
This is for the 2 litre in the Medium / Chunky grade, enough to pot around 3 to 6 medium plants (I get about 4 x 11cm pots from a 2 litre bag). Also comes in 5 litres and 10 litres. When retaining soil from the previous pot, one bag will go a lot further, same when using smaller pots. As with any natural, organic mix like this, it's best to buy small, get only what you need, and use fresh.
Which plants is it best for?
Formulated for Aroids and Hoya, so suitable for all indoor plants that share the same preferences. That includes epiphytic plants like Hoyas, Monstera, Philodendron, Pothos, Epipremnum and more. If your plant needs an airy, free-draining mix, or prefers things lightly moist, not damp or wet, or you need to protect your plants from your tendency to over-water, this blend's for you.
What's in the bag?
A chunky, airy, free-draining ratio of Orchid Bark, Pumice, Fern Fibre, Crushed Horticulture Charcoal and the Bio Leaf Bioactive Blend.
Closer to nature
As well as the chunky goodies you can see, Bio Leaf also includes a proprietary Bioactive Blend that promotes a healthy microbial population of beneficial, miniature soil microorganisms, creating a foundation for your plant that's closer to nature.
The non-plant-geek version? Although too tiny to see with the naked eye, Bio Leaf creates an ideal environment for tiny soil super heroes to set up home, helping increase nutrient availability to plants, reducing the risk of deficiencies and helping detoxify soil.
Orchid bark
Premium, export-quality grade orchid bark. Clean and sterile. Harder, slow-to-decompose grade lasts years. Increases soil aeration, resists compacting and adds drainage while holding water for slow-release.
Pumice
Natural, volcanic rock. Keeps its shape even when waterlogged. Keeps soil loose. Adds aeration and improves drainage. Keeps water moving. Naturally porous. Holds water roughly twice as long as bark for slow and steady release. Compared to perlite, although pumice costs more than cheaper perlite, pumice is the superior choice for plants, offering better drainage and higher compact-resistance than perlite, as well as pumice being more eco-friendly.
Fern fibre
Superb results for aroids, hoya, orchids, ferns and other epiphytes. Natural, soft, airy, fibrous and long lasting. Contains a lot of air but also holds water longer than many other free-draining substrates. Distributes moisture more evenly throughout the root zone. Sustainably harvested.
Horticultural charcoal
The over-waterers and worried-plant-parent's best friend! Helps increase aeration and adds drainage. Natural porosity holds on to necessary nutrients for roots to access. Creates a more favourable environment for good bacteria and beneficial microbes. Helps balance soil pH.
