New Guinea Bean - An interesting vegetable, which ironically is neither from New Guinea - and it's not even a bean! It's a climbing edible gourd or squash - a member of the cucurbit family. Kobu is a rare round version of Bottle gourd with a milder taste.
Its common name comes from a taste similar to green beans. It is considered one of the healthiest vegetables. The white flowers are large and scented.
How to grow: Soak seeds in mildly hot water overnight before sowing. Sow in spring
indoors, 30cm apart. Emerge in 12-18 days at 24-30°C. Slow & erratic germination. Needs trellis. Harvest in 60-75 days or when green fruit is young. Trellis support is required.
