This is a detailed tutorial and a pattern for making the Bruce leather messenger bag. It is a mid-sized everyday bag featuring a front pocket and an adjustable strap. It is roomy and can accommodate everyday essentials: a phone, an iPad , a long a wallet make-up, keys etc.
MATERIALS - BODY: 5.5-6 oz (2.2-2.4 mm) semirigid leather. You can make two bags from 11 sqf (1 sqm). Or you can line 3.5-4 oz (1.4-1.6 mm) semirigid leather with 1.5-2 oz (0.6-0.8 mm) pigsking leather. - CONTRAST LEATHER: 7.5-8 oz (3-3.2 mm) semirigid leather. Or you can line 5-5.5 oz (2-2.2 mm) semirigid leather with 1.5-2 oz (0.6-0.8 mm) pigsking leather. - SHOULDER STRAP: 7-8 oz (2.8-3.2 mm) leather. You need a piece of 45" (115 cm) for the longest shoulder strap. - 1 mm waxed polyester thread - leather glue - edge dye
HARDWARE - 1 x 1" (25 mm) buckle - 2 x 3/4" (20 mm) D rings - 1 x Sam Browne stud - 1 magnetic clasp
TOOLS - cutter - needles - 1.5 mm hole punch - cutting mat - mallet
