Chocolate Australi is purposely bred for its colour and does not appear in nature. These gorgeous little fish are best suited for a peaceful community setup with fish such as rasboras, neon tetras, and friendly corydoras catfish. They look primarily at home in an aquarium with a dark substrate. It is worth noting that these fish can jump quite well. For this reason, their aquarium should include a cover.
As a carnivore, these Killi fish readily accept frozen or live foods like daphnia and bloom worm. Additionally, supplementing live and frozen foods with a quality granule of suitable size will ensure they receive a balanced diet.
Breeding the Lyretail Killi is not tricky. They are known to be egg hangers, and several ways exist for spawning. It is easy to form pairs, even in aquariums as small as 30cm x 20″ x 20″. We recommend creating breeding trios or harems. The use of a breeding tank can be helpful. Such an aquarium does not require much filtration but can also have a higher pH level and lower water temperature to assist in conditioning the group for spawning.
All our fish are quarantined on arrival for two weeks. During this time, we treat for any health issues that may occur during transport and ensure each fish is eating well and looking healthy. All fish are treated with Flubendazole before finally going on sale.
