French Romantic composer Félicien David is practically unknown today, except for a few operas, and even those are not often performed. This piece for violin and piano, Andante e Scherzo Capriccioso, seems to have been written originally for violin and orchestra, and reduced for piano.
It is a virtuosic showpiece for the violinist.
