In the early 1970s Debussy’s very early piece for cello Nocturne et scherzo was rediscovered. Rostropovich was delighted to be invited to give the ‘first’ public performance of this unpublished piece. Its title, however, is misleading for it is one piece and not two; it is generally accepted that the nocturne is lost, and only the scherzo remains.
This piece includes a solo cello part and piano score. Edited by Roy Howat and published by Editions Durand.
Difficulty: ASTA Grade 6
