The Forktail Blue-Eye Rainbowfish is commonly found in forest streams with slow to moderate currents and clear water. To keep these fish happy in a tank environment, it is best to densely plant the tank and add floating plants and driftwood roots or branches to create a more natural feel.
Regarding diet, the Forktail Blue-Eye Rainbowfish feeds on floating or suspended zooplankton, phytoplankton, and invertebrates in nature. We must offer appropriately sized live foods such as Daphnia, Artemia, and micro worms in an aquarium. Crushed floating dried foods are also accepted.
These fish are social creatures and should be kept in a group of at least 8-10 specimens. This makes them less nervous and creates a more natural-looking display. Remember that male Forktail Blue-Eye Rainbowfish will display their best colours and behaviour as they compete for female attention.
Finally, be aware that this species is an egg-scatterer and does not exhibit parental care. The temperature should be towards the upper end of their preferred range to encourage spawning. Females can deposit a few eggs daily for several days, which will be attached to aquatic vegetation or other objects close to the substrate.
Our fish are quarantined on arrival for two weeks. During this time, we treat any health issues that may occur during transport and ensure each fish is eating well and looking healthy. All fish are treated with Flubendazole before finally going on sale.
