Species: Sequoiadendron giganteum
This species is the largest tree in the world by wood volume, limb thickness, and bark thickness. The current largest known tree in the world is a giant sequoia named General Sherman in California. Much larger sequoias have lived in the past, such as "Mother of the Forest", a tree which was debarked and subsequently died in1854 after living for 2,520 years. These trees are considered endangered. Help restore the giant sequoia population, but be sure to research the proper growing conditions for your region.
