Luffa acutangula

This hybrid angled luffa gourd produces delicious and productive fruits grown up to 38-45cm long. Its cylindrical shape with ridges makes it an extraordinary addition to any landscape; whether you plant it into a deep planter or over an archway, this fruit is sure to make a statement! Ready for harvest in 40 days after the flower sets, its appetizing flesh also provides additional utility beyond food - as it can be used as a kitchen or shower sponge due to its fibrous structure.

This luffa plant also answers to many different aliases, including Chinese okra, si gua, silk gourd, lin jiao si gua, edible luffa, you lin si gua. It is known in some cultures as sze kwa or see kwa and goes by the name hechima or luffa gourd.

Sow in spring & summer. Pre-soak seeds in lukewarm water (30°C) for 24 hours. Sow 2cm deep. Germinates at 27-32°C in 7-14 days. Plant spacing 50cm apart. 80-90 days to maturity.
