Scott Joplin (1868-1917) composed “Peacherine Rag” as a piano solo. The rag was originally published in 1901 by John Stark & Son of St. Louis, Missouri. It was on the “Peacherine” cover that Stark first proclaimed Scott Joplin the “King of Ragtime Writers,” the title by which Joplin is remembered today. This quintet transcription is true to the classic rag style in its articulations, dynamics, and tempo. The form of “Peacherine Rag” follows Joplin's most common pattern of A-B-A-C-D, with repeats of most sections.
