Description
Astronomy does not stop when the starlight yields to the sunshine of the day. Our nearest star, the Sun, is an amazing celestial wonder with endless variations of dramatic and subtle features of solar prominences, chromosphere, and solar surface details such as sunspots, plagues, flares, filaments, and granulation. But most of these active features of the Sun can only bee seen through an H-alpha filtered telescope.
H-alpha (Hë±) is a specific deep-red visible spectral line emitted by hydrogen at 656.28 nano-meters. This is an important emission line for solar observation, as the Sun’s surface layer contains a high proportion of hydrogen. Lunt Solar Telescopes utilize Etalon filter technology to safely block all light except for a fraction of the H-alpha spectrum. Lunt Solar Telescopes produce suberb visual and astrophotographic images.
The LS50THa from Lunt Solar Systems is dedicated sub-angstrom H-alpha solar telescope with an unobstructed 50mm aperture complete with a Pressure Tuner. It provides the basic essentials perfect for a first time introduction to solar observing, while also including the newest technology for fine tuning, allowing basic research of the Sun’s disk and many surface details.
True Doppler Tuning (Pressure Tuning) allows for a shift into and away from the user, adding a 3D-like component to the viewing experience. While it has minimal effect on proms due to their being at the edge of the disk, it does have an effect on filaments and active regions on the surface. While looking at a filament at the center of the Sun the user has the ability to Doppler shift from the base of the filament to the tip, following the filament through it’s structure toward you and away from you, allowing for enhanced visual and imaging capability for the observer as well as a research tool for the avid hobbyist. The pressure tuning system provides an order of magnitude more precision to the tuning of the desired features.
The excitement of viewing the Sun through this solar telescope will provide many many hours of visual enjoyment and educational insights. This package is fully upgradeable at any time without ever having to go back to the factory. As the Sun becomes increasingly more active, you may consider double stacking the telescope with the specially-designed LS50C compact double stack filter (sold separately) that further narrows the bandpass to reveal even greater solar details.
