Found in clearwater with moderately flowing streams, these active rainbowfish are a great schooling fish to house in any larger aquarium. When kept in numbers, they are a wonderful display of colour in a planted aquarium.
As far as fish go, the Madagascan Rainbowfish is not a fussy eater at all. In the wild they will feed on the many different insects that fall into the water and providing a similar diet in the home aquarium is quite easy. With the option of dry food in the form of the insect meal based fishscience range, plus frozen or live daphnia and brine shrimp, there are lots to offer.
Breeding these fish is not too difficult. We advise a dedicated breeder aquarium with a group of 3 females and a single male. Eggs will be deposited over a week and once the first fry begins to appear, adults must be removed to avoid eating their young.
All our fish are quarantined on arrival for two weeks. During this time, we treat for any health issues that may occur during transport and ensure each fish is eating well and looking healthy. All fish are treated with Flubendazole before finally going on sale.
