Spotlight on Strings, by Doris Gazda, is a flexible individual or group method book with a number of unique qualities. In addition to the standard instruction in technique, musicianship and theory, Spotlight on Strings introduces improvisation and composition in book 1 and expands on them in book 2. The method introduces all four fingers on all four strings very early, and repertoire is selected to make use of the full range of the instrument. Harmony parts for many tunes are included, enabling the method to be used in any size ensemble, with any instrument(s) playing the solo line. The teacher's score/keyboard part was arranged for those with modest' keyboard skills or students looking for ensemble experience.
