Maralinga tomatoes were developed in Australia by members of the Dwarf Tomato Project. They're a cross between heritage varieties that were earmarked for success thanks to their determinate (bushy) growth habit, beautiful mid-sized fruits with dark-red, tasty flesh, rich flavour, and handy fruit size. The result is an absolutely delicious, mini-beefsteak with fabulous colour. Although the Maralinga region was chosen for atom bomb testing, these are not radioactive mutants - but the name serves to memorialize the people who were affected. Try this gorgeous tomato in your suburban homestead garden, and enjoy rich flavour and even richer colour.
