What we like about 'Sweet Kate' is the brilliant gold foliage that pairs in such beautiful sharp contrast with dark purple flowers. It's a brilliant addition to gardens of greens, silvers, and blue for a pop of added color through foliage and then flowers that last about eight weeks long.
The foliage of Spiderwort maintains nice compact 12 to 18" clumps. The leaves are long and narrow, often referred to as strapy, as they weave among each other in a basket-like appearance. Plant in afternoon shade to prevent leaf scorching. Native to North America tradescantia is a great flowering plant for providing food to native bees and other pollinators.
