The American Fiddle Method by renowned fiddle teacher Brian Wicklund is a comprehensive program for learning fiddle, designed to complement classical violin programs, or to be used on its own. The method uses traditional tunes in a step-by-step progression, and covers important concepts like ensemble playing, improvisation, and 'jamming' skills. The book includes access to online audio for listening and play-along.
Volume 2 is geared towards intermediate-level players, and contains more tunes, as well as basic music theory, slurring and other bowing techniques, and double-stop backup parts. Some students who have studied violin or fiddle music before may be able to skip Volume 1 and start with Volume 2 if they have mastered basic concepts like correct violin and bow positioning, tone, and intonation.
