I feel like Yates has something for every plant, and orchids are no exception. Yates Thrive Orchid Liquid Plant Food is a specialist formula for all types of orchids. This is formulated as an all-rounder, with a balance between both foliage and flowering, for the orchid enthusiast looking for a simple 'one-and-done' solution. Helps promote bigger, beautiful and more prolific blooms as well as healthy, green leaf growth.
Yates Orchid contains Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Manganese, Iron and Copper in a concentrated formula, with one 500ml bottle making up to 150 litres. The NPK ratio is 7-2-10.
Directions for use
During active growth (whether foliage or flowers), go for 1 & 1/2 caps per 9 litres water (or to to 7.5mls per 1 litre of water), and apply weekly.
During slow growth and when not in flower, reduce to 1 cap per 9 litres water (or 3 to 5ml per 1 litre water), and feed every fortnight to once a month.
Flush watering in-between fertiliser application helps prevent mineral salt build-up and reduces the risk of fertiliser burn.
Application tips
If you're in a pinch without a pipette to measure mls accurately, the average size teaspoon holds 5mls and a tablespoon holds about 15mls.
Best applied during a cooler time of day (we'd give it a miss of you expect the temperature to reach over 30 degrees).
Give the bottle a good shake before each use.
Always dilute before you feed (don't apply the concentrate directly to your soil - dilute in water first, then apply).
If the soil's quite dry, always do a flush of plain water first, then feed with diluted Thrive as per the rates above.
If you water regularly, so the top few cm's is dry but soil around the roots further down is likely to be moist, just follow the normal directions above (initial flush feed not essential).
Store bottle in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and away from excess heat or moisture.
The safety data sheet can be downloaded from the Yates NZ website.
