Custom Skate Fitting

Bauer Custom Skate Process

The Hockey Shop is one of a few stores in North America that offers a custom MyBauer Fit Station and program. If you’re looking for a pair of skates built specifically to fit your feet, custom skate fitting is a perfect option. This is also a good alternative for those with more unique foot shapes and who consistently have a hard time finding the right skates.

How it Works

For the best experience, please contact us through email ([email protected]) or phone (604-589-8299) to make an appointment with one of our Skate Fitting Specialists. This part of the process lets us know you’re coming, and our Specialist can give you their full attention. They will begin by asking you a series of questions, so they can figure out what you are looking for in your hockey skates.

Please let us know about the kind of skates you’re already using and any issues you’ve had in the past with fitting. This information will help our Specialist better understand what you want in your skates.

The next part is the actual scan, which typically takes around 10-15 seconds. During this time, the MyBauer Scanner will measure and collect data from your foot stance and shape. Bauer partnered with Volumental, a company that specializes in footwear, to design their scanner. It is a high-tech piece of equipment that uses algorithms to recognize not just your foot shape and stance, but also any unique features, space, and support that your foot needs to play at your best.

Once it has completed the scan, it will give you a Best Recommended Fit profile and a 3D model of your feet. This profile will include a Bauer skate model (Vapor, Supreme), your fit type, size, and width. In some cases, these values may differ between your left and right skate. The scanner can also send your specs to the Bauer Player database, so they can be saved on the cloud and you can refer to them later again as needed. Please note that our Specialist may recommend a different model if another type of skate may fit your goals better (for example, the Scanner may suggest Vapor, but our Specialist may recognize that your goals align best with Supreme). The choice in the end is always 100% up to you, however.

Once the scan is complete, you will have specifications that will fit you and your needs perfectly. Beyond that, Bauer also offers countless materials and tech that you can add and edit to fit your needs. Our Skate Specialist can also help based on the information you gave about your performance goals.

CCM Custom Skate Process

CCM has upped their skate-making game by creating custom options for all three of their skate families: Tacks, Jetspeed, and Ribcor. Are you an agile player or a power skater? With custom skate fitting, you can get the perfect dimensions for your skates and choose the exact model and specs you want, all to enhance your performance the way you want it! CCM custom skates come in two package options: Total Custom and Total Custom Plus. Both come with amazing features and are built exactly to your foot shape; Total Custom Plus just adds a few more custom choices.

How it Works

Custom skates are designed to fit you, but it can be tough to understand all the tech and get the measurements right. We can help. First, contact The Hockey Shop through email ([email protected]) or phone (604-589-8299) to book a skate fitting appointment. Doing so ensures we can get one of our Skate Specialists to work on your fitting and give you their full attention while walking you through the process and giving suggestions.

To start, they will ask you various questions about your performance goals, the kind of skates you’ve been using (brand, model, etc.), difficulties you encountered when picking out skates in the past, and any unique foot features you may have.

Once we have all your information, we will start performing the scan. CCM’s 3D Fit Scan process uses a transparent footstool and their CCM 3D Fit Scanner 4+ app to take the measurements. Your Skate Specialist will instruct you to take your shoes and socks off, then place your feet barefoot on the stool. Keep your knees at a 90° angle between the stool and your seat during the process. The Specialist will then circle you and take the scan of your feet at all angles. The scan itself will take about 10-15 seconds.

When complete, the app will display a 3D model of your foot and suggest a CCM Best Recommended Fit, which will include skate model, size, and width for each foot. Our Specialist may suggest a different model based on your performance goals.

Holders

CCM XS Holders are the only skate holders offered on CCM Custom Skates currently.

Internal Foams

You have the option of adding Ankle Padding Donuts to the stock internal foams. This provides an additional level of comfort and support to customers that need additional wrap around their ankle bones and Achilles area.

Boot Sizing

When ordering Total Custom CCM Hockey Skates, you can your skates in 1/4 sizing, allowing for a near-perfect fit to enhance your performance. In addition, you can order two completely different-sized skates for your left and right feet. If you’re not sure, the scanner can help detect this measurement. This is a key feature, and we have found a good portion of our custom-fit customers end up getting two skates with slightly different fits. The differences in skate dimensions do not change the size of the standard steel and holders, so your performance on the ice and feel of the skates should not be affected either.

Name & Number Embroidery

CCM gives the option to personalize your skates with custom embroidery on the tongue (examples provided on the Tongue Option image). You are allowed to personalize your skates with a name or number, up to 12 characters long.

Laces

You can choose between waxed and non-waxed laces for your custom CCM skates, depending on your preference.

Liner

CCM Total Custom Hockey Skates come with a Black Clarino liner, which is different from the stock FT4 Skates. This is a more traditional hydrophobic style liner, which means it’s very good at wicking away moisture and repelling odour and bacteria. Any changes to the liner would fall under the Total Custom Plus options.

Steel Options

CCM is offering their skates with 2 different STEP steel options. The standard price for Total Custom comes with STEP stainless steel. If you want to upgrade to STEP BlackSteel, there is an additional $60 upcharge.

You can also opt for Personalized Engraving on your steel. Similar to the STEP BlackSteel, this option has an extra $60 upcharge.

Extra Boot Stiffness

CCM provides 4 different levels of stiffness when ordering custom skates. For reference, CCM skates come in at level 2 (in order of stiffest stock skates to most flexible: Tacks—Jetspeed—Ribcor). CCM offers a Pro and a Pro Stiff boot stiffness, which falls under Total Custom Plus.

Custom Boot Cut

Total Custom Plus gives you the ability to raise the height of your boot. CCM provides 2 Custom Boot Cut options: 3mm or 9mm.

Lower Boot Volume

For players with a shallow volume, CCM allows you to reduce the amount of volume in the fit of the boot. This option falls under the Total Custom Plus program.

Any Liner Change

All CCM custom hockey skates come stock with a Clarino liner. There are other options available, including different materials and colours. These changes would fall under the Total Custom Plus price point.

Lace-Lock

CCM offers their old-school LaceLock system on Total Custom Plus skates. This is a locking mechanism that replaces an eyelet on your skate, giving you a consistent hold throughout your game or practice.
