To be a successful Champlain Peony Company seasonal shopkeeper a candidate must thrive in a busy retail sales environment, have steadfast patience, and be able to maintain a pleasant and helpful demeanor in both face-to-face and virtual settings. In the Champlain Valley, the growing season is short and sweet. While other areas of New York State have six months or more to enjoy outdoor gardening activities, the Champlain Valley growing season only runs from May through September. And that’s in a good year! The Company seasonal sales team needs to ensure it is prepared to assist our customers with all their questions and to direct them to the best person able to create a positive transaction: this is likely the seasonal shopkeeper! The Seasonal Shopkeeper reports directly to the Shopkeeper:
Responsibilities of the Seasonal Shopkeeper:
- Safety is your primary responsibility, both for yourself and for others;
- Stocking and inventorying all merchandise intended for direct customer sale;
- Responding to customer questions and requests for assistance;
- Receiving correspondence via telephone or other electronic means and ensuring its delivery to an appropriate team member for response;
- Learning and giving guidance on the self-checkout system and assisting customers with self-check out as needed;
- Ensuring all sales are reconciled by checking receipts and inventorying sold materials prior to customer loading;
- Assisting customers with requests for materials or merchandise that are currently not available for sale;
- Keeping all retail spaces clean and free of clutter and all displays in peak appearance;
- Assisting Shopkeeper with set up and break down of merchandise displays and marketing functions as necessary;
- Being able to assist the production team with simple tasks as time allows such as watering plants, moving pots, raking or sweeping areas, and other light production needs;
- Assisting any customer who is in need by focusing attention, expertise, and genuine interest in our products and services to facilitate a positive transaction;
- Carrying out the goals of their supervisor by prioritizing and multi-tasking projects to achieve continuity of production and business functions.
