Determining the best size for a room...
Determining the best size for a room is just as important as choosing the proper rug style and colors palette. The shape and size of the rug will help to define furniture groupings and seating areas. Using several area rugs in one area can help to 'link' one room to another. Furniture can be centered on a rug or positioned off the rug, depending on your personal preference. Coordinating rugs are usually different patterns with similar colors, or you can use exact matching rugs for a more custom and modern approach.
For the Living Room...
Consider a larger size, especially for hard floors, to tie the furniture pieces together into one, comfortable seating arrangement. Putting the furniture on the rug will help to protect the floor, and hold the pieces in place during use, as well.
For the Dining Room...
You'll want a rug large enough to sit comfortably around the table without the chair legs falling off the rug. Generally, an 8x11 is great for 6 chairs around a table. 9x13 size for 8 chairs, and 10x14 size for 10 chairs. A square or round rug shape also works well for breakfast rooms with 4 chairs. We even carry some 10' round rugs for 6-8 chairs around a round or square table.
For medium sized rooms...
For medium sized rooms, area rugs are typically 5’ x 8’. This size is great for smaller bedrooms, home offices, and in living rooms under the coffee table, for example.

For large sized rooms...
Large rooms typically require an 8’ x 10 or larger area rug. This size of rug is great for living rooms, great rooms, dining rooms, and master bedrooms. Instead of arranging the furniture and rug in a traditional alignment, a new twist might be to angle the rug underneath; or angle the bed/sofa/dining table and rug to match.
