Dining Table Guide
Tips for choosing the right dining table for your home
PART 1: DINING ROOM SIZE & SEATING
When determining table size,
-
allow a minimum of 36" between each edge of the table and the wall or other furniture. For optimal spacing, allow 42"-48".
-
plan at least a 24" width per person for everyday seating.
-
adding about 6” to the table’s width will allow for chair tuck.

PART 2: TABLE SHAPES & EXTENSIONS
Round Tables are best for smaller groups and fostering conversation.
Rectangular Tables are versatile and allow the most seating.
Square Tables are great for smaller groups.
Solid Top Tables
Solid wood tops are a set size; leaves and extensions are not an option for tables with a solid wood top.
Middle Leaf Extensions
Leaf Extensions (12" or 18" W) are placed in the middle of the table. Some tables can self-store up to four leaves; the maximum number of leaves inserted is 4. Middle leaves are an option for ALL square and round tables and some rectangular tables. (Exception: Solid Top Tables)
Breadboard Extensions
Breadboard Extensions (18" W) are added at the ends of the table. The maximum number of breadboard extensions is two: one per end. (Exception: Solid Top Tables)

PART 4: THE DETAILS
Choose Wood, Stain, Epoxy, and Base
A FEW TIPS BY STYLE:
-
Modern/Contemporary Styles: We suggest a live edge or solid tabletop with a tight-grained wood (oak, cherry, or walnut); a steel base is great for this design style.
-
Rustic Styles: Choose reclaimed barnwood and a solid wood base or legs.
-
Farmhouse Styles: Any wood type is great for farmhouse-style tables; a two-toned finish (natural wood top and painted base) is a popular choice; can add extensions; wood trestle base or legs are good options.
