What is ABS filament?
ABS filament is one of the most common materials used in 3D printing today. ABS, or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, is a thermoplastic that is easily molded when heated and hardens evenly when cooled. Because it can take many forms and maintains its quality, ABS filament is used in traditional manufacturing in a variety of industries, as well as by 3D printing hobbyists.
Advantages of ABS filament
ABS filament is a common 3D printing material for a variety of reasons.
- ABS filament is an extremely durable thermoplastic. It is commonly used in rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing environments to test product impact resistance and durability.
- ABS has strong electrical insulation properties.
- ABS filament’s properties of higher temperature resistance, flexibility, machinability and strength make it a preference for engineers and others where mechanical uses are important.
- Parts made from ABS can be processed with acetone, for a smooth, shiny finish.

The Differences Between Our ABS Filaments:
Our Standard ABS filament is a thermoplastic 3D printer filament. It easily molds when heated and sets evenly when cooled. ABS filament is used by a variety of manufacturing industries for parts requiring structural integrity and detail, and is ideal for “wear and tear” projects. It is commonly used in rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing environments to test product impact resistance and durability. It is also popular with 3D printing hobbyist who utilize 3D printing in their home or at a local maker faire. This 3D printer filament comes in a variety of colors and is available in 1.75mm and 2.85mm in diameter, and comes in various spool sizes and weights including (but never limited to) 500 g, 5 lbs, 15 lbs and 1 kg. ABS Prime is an advanced thermoplastic material used in rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing environments. It is well known for its temperature resistance, flexibility, machinability and strength.
