I'm a lifelong collector. I’ve always loved little trinkets, nicknacks, figures, and other collectibles.
Since I was young I’ve been collecting things that represent what I like, where I’ve been, What I’ve done, whom I’ve known, and so on…
They are little things that I can display for decoration, and conversation pieces while also acting as little reminders of things I may otherwise forget about during the course of a long busy life.
One thing I've come to notice in our growing world is that there's so much happening in such a short period of time that many great things are quickly forgotten by the mainstream. But that doesn't mean there aren't loyal fans of those things that wish someone would make some cool figures from their favorite shows, movies, or games. Funko has been doing a pretty good job of it for years, but they don't cover everything. And they might not be everyone's cup of tea, or maybe a little big for people wanting a large ever-growing collection. Plus it seems to me at times that they are too mainstream focusing on the same things based on the most "popular" things and leaving the rest of us disappointed.
When a business is created purely for the purpose of making money the only thing that matters is the majority, what sells most. And they don't really seem to get that information from the people. It seems they get it from computers, algorithms, and other tracking data. If they actually listened to the people they wouldn't get it wrong so much. We wouldn't see the shelves overloaded with tons of things that aren't selling.
We want to try a different approach. We hope to set up a place for fans to come and tell us exactly what they want. We want to build a loyal following of fans that share their opinions to tell us what they want and how much of it to make, so we can focus on making only what people want without flooding the market and wasting time and money putting out things they don't want. Our business model isn't to become a huge corporation. We want to be a small, efficient, reliable, and trusted business that exists to serve each small group of fans that the big mainstream companies ignore. This company is being formed to meet the needs of a minority of collectors, to make what the big guys don't have time for, and we don't plan to stray from that business plan. We just hope we can build the following we need to make it happen.
Big businesses make hundreds of thousands of a single product that no one wants, and because of that, they may not bother making any of the things that maybe only 10,000 people want. Does that mean those people's opinion doesn't matter? Well to the big guys it may not matter enough or at all. But those are the people we want to cater to. It will obviously take us some time to get things going and develop the following we need to fully realize our dream, but we're announcing our ultimate goal from the start so each customer we have in our early stages knows what we're working towards, and can follow along and help grow the community to get us where we all need us to be to start giving everyone what they want.
We're starting out with a few first drafts. Handmade prototypes of some of our favorite characters from the shows we love, in hopes of getting things started. We have some manufacturers mapped out so that once we have a following and their requests we can begin delivering more high-quality items in limited volumes to match the number of requests. We hope this will also help strengthen the collectibility of our items as well, and bring more attention to us to continue growing and spread more joy to collectors everywhere.
