We are a family of 5 living on the Central Coast, NSW, Australia. We love spending time together at the beach, surfing, bike riding, travelling and eating out. We value all the small special moments together like laughing, being silly, cuddles and kisses.
Our family has been on a journey for a while now, learning about how different foods, products and the environment impact our health. We are always looking at ways we can simply reduce our body’s toxic load by mindfully choosing what we are exposed to in our daily life.
We have mealtime multiple times a day and use tableware countless times in our lives. We started looking into toxic-free kids tableware and found our options were minimal and/or expensive. Stainless steel tableware was not readily available unless you shopped in the camping section of stores – but this was unappealing and adult sized only. This is when Mindful Mealtime was born.
We set out to create a small, family run business to sell appealing, toxic-free, kids size stainless steel tableware at an affordable price.
Having 3 kids under 5 has made life very busy, challenging at times and definitely exhausting. You hear people say many times “These are the most precious years” and “The days are long but the years are short”. Bringing yourself back to the moment and being mindful (present/aware) is something we practice daily. It’s not always easy but cherishing these years is high on our priority list.
One way we practice being mindful daily is lighting a beeswax candle at dinnertime and asking each other the simple question: “What are you grateful for today?” We have been doing this for the past couple of years now and it has worked so beautifully as a conversation starter. I have noticed that when we encourage conversation at mealtime, our kids stay at the dining table longer and eat more of their food.
To pair with our stainless steel dinnerware we have also created ‘conversation starter’ cards to encourage connection and engagement at mealtimes.
