We DO NOT USE:
🚫 Sulfates: Sulfates are a type of detergent or surfactant used in many hair care products to create lather and remove dirt and oil from the scalp. However, sulfates can be harsh and stripping, leading to dryness, breakage, and scalp irritation – just the opposite of the healthy nourishment we’re aiming for! Instead look for low-foam or no-foam cleansers.Common sulfates: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
🐴 Electric Pony uses Distearoylethyl Dimonium Chloride – a green conditioning agent that rebuilds skin proteins for shine and detangling with mild cleansing.
🚫 Silicones: Silicones are synthetic polymers used in many hair care products like conditioners and styling products, silicones give the hair an instantaneous (but artificial) silky, shine. They prevent moisture from penetrating the hair shaft, which dries and damages hair, while building up on the scalp as well, which can clog follicles. Common silicones: Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone,, Phenyl trimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane.
🐴 If you're looking for a longer-term solution to nourish your pup's or pony's dry, damaged hair, then using products that contain cold-pressed, plant-derived oils will give healthier, luscious locks over time. Oils that are great for using in hair include Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil, and Sunflower Oil.
🚫 Parabens: Parabens are a type of preservative used in many hair care products to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold. However, studies have suggested that parabens may be endocrine disruptors and have potential health risks. Common parabens: methyl-paraben, propyl-paraben, parahydroxybenzoate
🐴 There are better options on the market! We use Sodium Levulinate and Sodium Anisate, which are mild and plant derived.
🚫 Formaldehyde: Formaldehyde is a chemical used in hair smoothing treatments and as a preservative in some hair care products. However, formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and can cause irritation, allergic reactions, and other health problems.
🚫 Synthetic Fragrances: Fragrances are known to lead to a range of skin reactions, whether that be redness, itching, hives, or dermatitis. More than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances are derived from petrochemicals. Look for natural fragrances derived from essential oils – they benefit the skin and are tied to mood enhancement and emotional regulation.
🐴 We use a proprietary blend that includes Rose Hydrosol and Frankincense among other essential oils that are gentle and softening to the skin.
🚫 Phthalates: Phthalates are a group of chemicals used as plasticizers and fragrance components in some hair care products and synthetic fragrances. Studies have linked phthalates to hormone disruption and reproductive toxicity.
🐴 Instead enjoy real essential oils that benefit not only skin but benefit our emotional well-being and our horses and pups, too!
🚫 Mineral Oil: Mineral oil is a cost-efficient oil that is used in many different hair treatments, it adds temporary shine and detangling. While mineral oil acts as a glossy coating for the hair, it can’t penetrate the hair shaft and isn’t effective at treating damage.
🐴 If you are looking for an oil that will be more effective at preventing the loss of essential hair proteins, then we suggest looking for conditioners or leave-in products that contain Argan Oil or Sunflower Oil instead, as plant oils have many fatty acids that are like hair and skin’s natural oils to support hair health, shine, growth and strength.
