The Sustainable Materials We Use

a field of organic cotton growingOrganic Cotton

Traditional cotton production accounts for 10% of the world's pesticides and 25% of the world's insecticide use, and this is something that we don't want to be a part of. These strong and often toxic chemicals pollute local ecosystems and put biodiversity at risk, so we choose organic cotton every time.
Each of our organic cotton t-shirts uses an impressive 27 gallons less water to produce than traditional cotton production, any wastewater is treated so that no contamination is released into the environment and finishing leaves no dye, bleach or chemical residues.

Regenerated cotton is made by collecting and sorting waste cotton by colour, which is then shredded and finally re-spun and knitted into new garments. Depending on the properties required by the garment it will be made into, regenerated cotton can sometimes be blended with recycled polyester from plastic bottles which will no longer go into landfill.
By using regenerated cotton, on average our sweaters use 0.22kg of cotton and 19 plastic bottles to produce. This saves over 200g of pesticides and fertilizers, 3.2kwH of energy, 2,000 litres of water, 1kg in dyes and finishing chemicals and 11kg of CO2 emissions.

By taking plastic bottles and crushing, cleaning and re-polymerising them into polyester chips, these can be spun into yarn for knitting and being made into new garments like our neck warmers.
As well as reducing landfill waste, soil contamination, air & water pollution, recycling polyester saves between 40-50% energy consumption compared to virgin polyester & there is no further petroleum or fossil fuel used to produce it.
