Ken Layman

Ken Layman

Ken Layman began showing his artwork at Nantucket Looms in 1971, making him one of the Looms' most prolific artists. Known for his billowy cloudy skies set above the Nantucket landscape, every painting is the embodiment of Ken Layman's imagination. He does not paint en plen air nor does he use reference photos, allowing his memory to lead his hand. Ken has taught at Georgia State University, Newcomb College, New Orleans and Wheelock College, Boston; and, of the eighty artists we represent, many have been his students. His work hangs at the US Department of State as well as the American Embassy in Athens, Sao Paulo, Geneva and New York City. Today, Ken teaches at the Nantucket Artist Association, passing along his in-depth knowledge and philosophy of painting.
