WHAT MAKES THE MAINE WRAP SO SPECIAL?
The Maine Wrap is our Original! Named after our spiritual home in Maine, USA, it was our first product. It is a Mama made, labour of love. Whilst on Maternity Leave, no sling felt right; too expensive to invest in for a few months, too long to be practical, or too uncomfortable or unstylish to wear out. We designed one from scratch; trying out lengths, fabrics, and prints. It took 6 months of wearing and adapting, until we landed on our original Maine Leopard print.
HOW DO I KNOW THEY ARE SAFE?
Made using a breathable, super soft cotton with two-way stretch to comfortably fit all shapes, so once tied snugly you can pop baby in and out of the baby wrap easily and adjust as needed. Our fabrics are certified Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® so you know there are no harmful chemicals, keeping baby’s delicate skin safe and complies with EN 1103 & EN 71-2. Our wraps are also safety tested up to a weight of 9kg/20lbs (PD/CEN/TR 16512 ) and acknowledged "Hip Healthy" by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.
WHEN CAN I USE A WRAP WITH MY BABY?
Providing a gentle transition from womb to world, you will get the most benefit using your baby wrap from birth to 4-6 months (up to 20lbs). We recommend wearing baby in a front carry position for optimum hip development, this is especially important in the first few months after birth when baby’s hips are still developing.
For premature babies we recommend seeking help from a healthcare professional or local sling consultant prior to wearing.
CAN I WEAR MY BABY FACING FORWARD OR ON MY BACK?
It is not advised to do this and will place pressure on your baby’s spine and joints, whilst also increasing the risk of baby falling out. In addition they are not visible for you to check on them regularly, we always recommend following the TICKS Safety Guidelines.
I FEEL LIKE MY BABY ISN’T TOTALLY SECURE. AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG?
If in doubt, always pull tighter when wrapping! Don’t worry about thinking there will be no room for baby, this just means you are doing it right. Keep the wrap as flat as possible to your body also, avoiding twists in the fabric. Lastly, adjust so that the ‘X’ is higher on your back so that baby is closer to you too.
Always remember to keep your wrap tight so it is hugging your body and baby once tied (no more than a 3 inch gap when pulled out with your hand). If needed, take baby out to re-tie and adjust to remove all slack before tying around you.
HOW CAN I KEEP BABY SAFE?
Designed according to the The British Association of Babywearing Instructors for safe babywearing following the 'TICKS guidelines developed by the The Consortium of UK Sling Manufacturers and Retailers.
The Bon + Bear Maine Nursing Wrap has also been acknowledged by the IHDI (International Hip Dysplasia Institute) as ‘hip-healthy’ and tested to PD/CEN/TR 16512 meaning they are to the highest safety standards and suitable up to 9kg/20lbs.
It is always your responsibility to use this product as recommended according to the safety guidelines, and to always keep your baby closely monitored.
Bon + Bear will not be held responsible for any injuries due to misuse or careless babywearing.
Safety can only be guaranteed by the wearer - Baby Sling Safety
WILL YOUR WRAP FIT IN MY PRAM OR NAPPY BAG?
Of course! We provide all our baby sling wraps with our Essentials Bag. Perfect for storing your stretchy wrap on the move, and when you no longer breastfeed or babywear, can store your weaning snacks or babys toys. Handy, huh?
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY WRAP?
We know you may end up spilling milk (bottle or breast!), but we recommend limiting how often you wash your stretchy wrap and instead spot cleaning. Avoid washing with buttons or zips to avoid snagging the fabric too. For more info see below or refer to the tag on your wrap.
