About Us

Surf. Aloha. Rock 'n' Roll.

Chris de Aboitiz opened Noosa Longboards beside the river in Noosaville in 1994. Born in Australia but raised in Hawaii, Chris was schooled in the waterman’s craft at Waikiki under the guidance of the legendary Clyde Aikau, who famously won the first ever Eddie Memorial Contest charging 30-foot monsters at Waimea Bay. From a very early age, Chris was noted for his ability in the water and has been teaching people to surf since he was 15.

The establishment of Noosa Longboards and Chris’ exceptional skills in the water allowed him to make a huge contribution to the longboard renaissance in Australia. He achieved countless competition accolades, including the World Tandem title in 1999, and is credited with introducing Stand Up Paddleboarding and Kitesurfing to Australia.

After partnering with long-time customer Michael Holmes, and against all advice from bankers, locals, and just about anybody with an opinion, Noosa Longboards took the plunge and took on the world famous Hastings Street. No one imagined that a small family business could take on the financial might of the world’s multinational brands - but they were wrong! Nineteen years later the Noosa Longboards signature store is considered a local icon - a surf lifestyle emporium for all.

Chris has since moved on to pursue a successful career in his passion for combining Stand Up Paddleboarding and dog training. NL is now run by father-son duo Michael and Ash, who continue to take the business from strength to strength.

Today, Noosa Longboards seeks out niche and specialty brands from around the world, such as Reyn Spooner, Birdwell Beach Britches and Avanti. We offer rare art, posters, books, and memorabilia. We also are the proud licensees for the iconic Bruce Brown Films and Image Library from California, and partner with legendary L. A. pop culture artist John Van Hamersveld. We welcome all to our Noosa and Brisbane stores, where we share our nostalgic take on the Noosa lifestyle and our Hawaiian influences.
