Our team here at Fire & Steel has been to many conventions across North America and we often get asked about specific swords or weapons seen in fight scenes from movies and TV shows. By popular request, join Fire and Steel's CEO Laura as she reacts to and analyzes some iconic fight scenes from pop culture that we surprise her with every month!
Laura analyzes one of the most iconic fight scenes in movie history: the battle between Yu Shu Lien and Jiao Long in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000). In 19th century Qing Dynasty China, a warrior (Chow Yun-Fat) gives his sword, Green Destiny, to his lover (Michelle Yeoh) to deliver for safe keeping, but when it gets stolen, the chase is on to find it. The search leads to the House of Yu where the story takes on a whole different level with a dazzling fight sequence involving a variety of weaponry!
In this video, we analyze a scene from Fate/Stay Night where Rin & Archer use a pair of blades to fight against Lance who yields his Gae Bolg Spear. Laura breaks down the fight sequence between these powerfully matched weapons - but can somebody explain what's up with all the small feet in Fate/Stay Night? XD
One of the most iconic fight scenes from the second season of The Mandalorian, the battle between Ahsoka Tano and The Magistrate has Ahsoka double wielding her infamous light sabers against a spear made of Beskar. How do the weapon fighting styles match up in a galaxy far, far away? And did Laura spot an editing error in the fight sequence? Watch and see!
