Pebble crochet toys started in Samantha Morshed MBE’s spare room shortly after she landed in Bangladesh in 2004. This is where she set up Hathay Bunano PS, a not for profit organisation. Reaching out to 12 young women, she taught them to knit in just 3 weeks. They then began to fulfil their first orders for her ‘handicrafts project’.
By January 2009 there were over 2,000 women working in rural production centres across the country. Facilities included a creche and pre-schools where it was possible. Amongst other things, employees are paid a fair wage, work in a safe and healthy environment and aren’t discriminated against. Following further success, the Pebble brand was created in 2010!
We love how because all Pebble toys are Fair trade and hand made by skilled artisans; there may be slight variations in colour, style, size and shape meaning all toys are slightly unique!
